Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What's the Difference?

October 15, 2026•3 min read

“Do I need a deep clean or a regular clean?” is one of the first things people ask us. The honest answer depends on one question: when was the last time anyone touched the tops of your ceiling fans?

Here’s how the two actually differ, what each one covers in our checklist, and how to tell which one your home needs right now.

The short version

A regular clean keeps a home that’s already in good shape from sliding backward. A deep clean gets a home back to that point in the first place. Same team, same supplies, but a deep clean goes after the spots that build up slowly and get skipped week to week.

What a regular clean covers

This is what a standard visit looks like on our recurring maid service:

  • Kitchen: counters, backsplash, stovetop, appliance exteriors and the sink.
  • Bathrooms: scrubbed and disinfected.
  • Bedrooms and living areas: dusted.
  • Floors: swept, vacuumed and mopped.
  • Trash: taken out.

It’s built to be repeated weekly, every other week or monthly. The point is that nothing ever gets bad enough to need a big reset.

What a deep clean adds

A deep cleaning includes everything above, plus the detail work:

  • Baseboards wiped down throughout the house.
  • Ceiling fans, including the tops of the blades.
  • Window blinds and window sills.
  • Inside the microwave.
  • Bathrooms scrubbed, not just wiped: showers, tubs, toilets, counters, mirrors, cabinet fronts and floors.
  • Bedrooms and living areas dusted top to bottom, not just the surfaces you can see from the doorway.

Because of that extra detail, a deep clean takes noticeably longer than a standard visit. Plan on the crew being there for several hours.

Signs your home needs a deep clean first

  • The fans test. If it’s been six months or more since anyone cleaned the ceiling fans, it’s time.
  • You’re starting recurring service. We usually recommend a deep clean as the first visit. A home that’s been reset is a lot easier to keep up, and your regular visits go further.
  • Monsoon season just ended. Dust storms push fine dust into window tracks, blinds, sills and vents. A regular clean handles the surfaces; a deep clean gets the rest.
  • Something’s coming up. Hosting family, a party, getting back on your feet after being sick, or a rental walkthrough.
  • You’re moving out. That’s its own animal. We put together a move-out cleaning checklist for Phoenix renters that covers what landlords look at.

When a regular clean is enough

If the house is already in decent shape and you just want it to stay that way, skip the deep clean and start with regular visits. Paying for detail work your home doesn’t need isn’t a good use of your money. If you’re not sure, tell us when the last real top-to-bottom clean happened and we’ll give you a straight answer.

A few practical notes

  • Supplies are included for both. If you have natural stone, sealed hardwood or someone sensitive to certain products, let us know when you book and we’ll work around it.
  • Clear what you can. Counters and floors that aren’t covered in stuff let the team spend their time cleaning instead of moving things.
  • Every job ends with a walkthrough. If something was missed, tell us and we’ll come back and fix it.
