How Often Should You Have Your House Cleaned?
There’s no single right answer, but there is a right answer for your house. It comes down to who lives there, how much dust gets in, and how clean you want it to feel day to day.
Here’s how to choose, based on what we see in homes across the Phoenix area.

The three common schedules
Every week
Best for:
- Families with young kids
- Homes with more than one pet, especially dogs
- Anyone who works long hours and wants to come home to a clean house, every time
The house never gets past “lived-in.” Every visit is a maintenance visit, so it goes quickly.
Every two weeks
This is the most popular schedule, and for most households it’s the sweet spot. Bathrooms and kitchens get a full clean before they start looking rough, and you handle the small stuff in between.
Best for:
- Couples and small families
- One pet
- People who tidy up regularly but don’t want to scrub bathrooms
Once a month
Monthly works for people who keep up with daily cleaning themselves and want a professional reset on the bigger jobs: bathrooms, floors, dusting high spots.
Best for:
- Singles or couples who are rarely home
- Tidy households with no pets
The trade-off: a month is a long time in a bathroom, so each visit takes longer and there’s more buildup to work through.
Arizona-specific things that change the answer
- Dust. Valley homes collect dust faster than most, especially after windy days and during monsoon season. If you’re constantly wiping the same surfaces, go more often.
- Pets. Fur plus desert dust is a lot. Dog owners almost always end up on a weekly or every-two-weeks schedule.
- Hard water. Shower glass and faucets build up mineral film fast. Longer gaps between cleanings mean more scrubbing to get it off.
- Pools and patios. Homes with a backyard pool or desert landscaping get more foot traffic tracking dirt in from outside.
Start with a deep clean
If your home hasn’t had a thorough top-to-bottom clean in a while, start with a deep cleaning before regular visits. It covers baseboards, ceiling fans, blinds and the spots that get skipped week to week, so every visit after that is easier. If you’re not sure which one you need, we wrote a whole post on deep cleaning vs. regular cleaning.
Can you change it later?
Yes, and you should if it’s not working. A lot of clients start every two weeks, then move to weekly during busy seasons or when a new pet arrives. Others drop to monthly in summer when they’re traveling.
Our take
If you’re unsure, start every two weeks. After a month or two, you’ll know whether you’re wishing for more or barely noticing a difference.
