9 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a House Cleaner in Arizona
You’re letting someone into your home, often while you’re not there. It’s worth five minutes of questions up front.
These are the questions we’d want answered if we were hiring a cleaning company ourselves, and what a good answer sounds like.

1. Are you insured?
This is the big one. If a cleaner breaks something or gets hurt on your property, insurance is what keeps that from becoming your problem.
Good answer: “Yes, we carry general liability insurance, and we can send proof.” Ask for it. A real company won’t hesitate.
Insured vs. bonded: you’ll hear both terms. Insurance covers accidents and damage. A bond is a separate product that typically covers theft by an employee. They’re not the same thing, so if one matters to you, ask about it specifically instead of assuming.
2. Who will actually be cleaning my home?
Some companies send their own team. Others are booking platforms that send whoever’s available. Ask who shows up, and whether you’ll see the same people each visit.
3. Do you run background checks?
Good answer: “Yes, everyone who cleans for us is background-checked before their first job.”
4. How do you price it?
Hourly, flat rate by square footage, or by bedrooms and bathrooms are all common. What matters is knowing the number before they arrive. Be careful with quotes that are “estimates” that change once someone sees the house. We wrote more about what sets the price of house cleaning in Phoenix.
5. What’s included, and what’s not?
Get specific. Is the inside of the oven included? Inside the fridge? Baseboards? Blinds? Laundry? A “standard clean” means something different at every company. Ask for their checklist.
6. Do you bring your own supplies?
Most companies do. If you have natural stone, sealed hardwood, or someone in the house sensitive to certain products, ask what they use and whether they’ll use yours.
7. What happens if something gets missed?
Good answer: “Tell us within a day or so and we’ll come back and fix it.” That’s a guarantee. “We’ll take a look” is not.
8. What’s your cancellation and reschedule policy?
Life happens. Find out how much notice they need, and whether there’s a fee.
9. Can I read your reviews?
Look at their Google reviews, not just the testimonials on their website. Read the three-star ones too. How a company responds to a complaint tells you a lot.

- Won’t give a price until they’re in your home
- Can’t or won’t show proof of insurance
- Cash only, no receipt
- Pressure to sign a long contract up front
- No reviews, or only reviews from the last two weeks
